Melissa Reeves recently celebrated her 40th anniversary playing the role of Jennifer Horton Deveraux on “Days of Our Lives.” It’s not the only celebration she’s enjoyed this year. Back in March 2025, she and Scott Reeves celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.
The couple first met when Scott was cast as Jake Hogansen on Days. His role may not have lasted long, but the impression he made on Melissa was big. She recently chatted with Swoon about what has helped to keep her marriage on track for all of these years.
A Proposal Fit for a Soap Opera
GettyIt didn’t take the couple very long to realize that they were both in it for the long haul. While Scott was filming a movie in Canada, he decided that it was time to pop the question. The proposal itself took place on April 1, 1989. โWe went to Stanley Park to this little place called The Teahouse, and I was cold, and he actually gave me his leather jacket,โ Melissa explains. โThe ring was in the pocket, and I had no idea, and I never put my hands in the pocket. I just kind of had it around my shoulders. And then we went out onto this one point called Lions Gate Bridge, and he proposed to me outside at night. It was so beautiful.โ
Missy and Scott had just started to plan their version of a perfect wedding when a sinus infection led to him needing brain surgery. Obviously, their wedding was then delayed for a few months. It went from being a grand affair to something much smaller, which took place on March 23, 1990.
Melissa and Scott are Proud of the Life They Share
GettyThirty-five years later, Melissa is the first to admit their journey hasn’t always been easy. She told Swoon, โMarriage is hard, and I donโt even know how people make it without God in their lives. Thereโs just a humble submission when you go, โWe made a covenant to each other, and we are in this till the end, no doubt.’โ
โThere are so many days when you go, โOh, I just donโt even want to look at you today. Go do something.’ But we love each other so much. Weโve loved each other since we were so young, and you go, โWeโre not going to quit on this. Weโre not doing that to our children, and weโre not doing that to ourselves. Weโre staying in it,” explains the soap star.
Now, so many years in, Melissa takes pride in the successful life that she and Scott have built together. โI always say, โIf you can just hang in there, youโre going to come out the other side and youโre going to be like, we did it!โ And itโs so rewarding. We had to grow up together. We really did. When youโre an actor and youโre making money and youโre being spoiled, you can lose a sense of reality, for sure. But itโs been a wonderful 35 years.โ
