After 15 years of hits, tours and shared harmonies, country duo Maddie & Tae announced they are going their separate professional ways โ at least for now.
In an exclusive interview with People published December 8, 2025, members Maddie Marlow Font and Tae Dye Kerr revealed theyโre ending the duo to follow different personal callings, while vowing that their friendship remains strong.
While their journey as a duo might be coming to an end, the two remain friends.
โEven though weโre not gonna go on this journey as Maddie & Tae together, weโre still walking and doing life together outside of it,โ Font said. โAnd I think Iโm really excited to just be best friends and nurture our friendship and not have to worry as much about the work and still get to raise our babies together. None of that changes.โ
The two added a statement on their Instagram after the news broke on Monday, Dec. 8.
“Thank you for all the love as we step into this new bittersweet chapter,” it began. “We both feel overwhelmed with gratitude for what weโve built with yโall the last 12 years. Thank you for making our wildest dreams come true and we hope you stay close by to watch us chase some new dreams.”
What’s Next for Each
Font shared that she’s felt a renewed drive to purse music solo.
At the same time, Kerr said she’s stepping back from the spotlight to focus on her family, embracing motherhood and the demanding work of raising children.
โIโm a mother, too, so I totally understand the pull,โ Font told the outlet. โWe both were very aware of Tโs heart just not being in touring as much.โ
However, Font said in the future the two could reunite.
โWeโre leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day,โ Font added. โWe might go do some tour dates one day.โ
Maddie & Tae burst onto the country scene in 2014 with their debut single โGirl In a Country Song,โ and went on to build a catalog filled with honest storytelling, tight harmonies, and chart-topping songs including โDie From a Broken Heart.โ
Over the years, they released four albums and several EPs, earned a devoted fan base, and racked up award nominations and critical acclaim.
Fans React
Fans were quick to react to the surprising news of the two splitting.
“Iโve loved them since middle school iโm so bummed about this,” one user wrote.
The band Tigerlily Gold added, “You two are both incredible people. Will always be cheering each of you on.”
While the two are not going to be making any more music, the country duo still has a handful of tour dates in 2026 before they officially part ways.
