Simone Biles is one of the biggest names in modern-day gymnastics. However, she isn’t quite sure if she wants to head back to the Olympics in 2028. That year, the games will take place in Los Angeles, California.
“I feel like we’re still at a 50-50,” the athlete shared with CNN this week. “We’re still on a time crunch here. [It’s been] almost half of 2026, so we’re going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly.”
Biles withdrew from the 2020 Olympics, which took place in 2021 due to the pandemic. She cited mental health issues and needed time away. She returned to the competition in 2024, completely exceeding expectations. Biles left Paris with four additional medals.
“I think mental health plays a big role in it,” the 29-year-old admitted. “Physically, my coaches will get me in shape [and] I will get myself in shape. We believe in that ability. We’re really thankful that I’m still healthy, but mental is a huge thing.”
“It’s a lot of dedication on that because the road’s not easy. It’s long, but it’s still work,” the gymnast added.
The Gold Medalist Wants to Make Tweaks to the Olympic Village
If Simone Biles does return to the Olympic games, she has some requests when it comes to designing the athlete village.
“We’re elite athletes trying to compete on the biggest stage of our life, the most important meet of our life, and they’re like, ‘Hey, try doing it after you sleep on this cardboard bed,’” Biles told Us Weekly back in 2024.
The cardboard beds were part of an effort to make the games more eco-friendly. However, the competitors weren’t fond of the accommodations.
“We’re the best athletes in the world, so I feel like for just one or two weeks we deserve the best of the best,” Biles added. “You know, we shouldn’t be stressing about sleeping on a cardboard bed.”
The sleeping situation may have been less than ideal, but Simone Biles found other things to love about the athletes’ village. She enjoyed meeting competitors from around the world and finding common ground, despite their differences.
On top of that, she genuinely loved bonding with the other gymnasts representing the United States.
“It is truly a sisterhood, and we’ve been training together, like me and Jordan [Chiles] have known each other since I was 14 and she was like 11,” Simone Biles shared. That’s not the case when we’re out there. It’s not catty. We’re not bratty towards one another. We truly want everybody to do their best.”
Jordan Chiles went on to compete on “Dancing With the Stars” season 34, partnering with pro dancer Ezra Sosa. The pair came in third place. Simone Biles and Sasha Farber competed in season 24, finishing in fourth place.
