A Birthday Memory Made Even More Precious

Just weeks earlier, Inaba shared a heartbreaking note. Sharing a glimpse of a quiet birthday celebration at home, marking her 58th with Peanut resting in her arms. In photos shared online, she held her aging dog close and reflected on how deeply meaningful the moment felt.

โ€œThe most precious birthday gift of all.โ€

โ€œOn this 58th birthday, I am filled with gratitude for this life God has given me,โ€ Inaba wrote.

โ€œThe number seems higher than it should be lol, but it also comes with a feeling of hopeful anticipation for whatโ€™s to come. Because I do feel that this is going to be a very special year.โ€

She later explained that celebrating with Peanut kept her grounded in what mattered most.

โ€œI also am feeling so much gratitude that this little Queen has chosen to celebrate my birthday with me. Itโ€™s a gift that humbles me and grounds me in the things that matter most. Little moments of peace,โ€ she added.

โ€œI am feeling so much love right now. I feel it from all of you. I feel it from the universe, my friends and family, and of course my fur babies. I am in awe of the peace and warmth I feel in my soul.โ€

Inaba Opened Up About Anticipatory Grief Before Peanutโ€™s Death

In the weeks leading up to her birthday, Inaba had spoken candidly about Peanutโ€™s declining health, including ongoing heart and trachea issues. She shared a raw video of herself painting, describing it as a way to work through what she called anticipatory grief.

โ€œPeanut ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค๐Ÿฅบ,โ€ she wrote.

โ€œItโ€™s an honor of a lifetime. We are going to make it through this chapter. But Iโ€™m not going to lie, itโ€™s devastating to know we are getting close. There are so many emotions. Sorrow taking the top level and dripping down on everything else making it all so heavy. Yet so rich with love.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m devastated. Exhausted. Broken-hearted. Raw. I needed a release or I would shatter,โ€ she added, explaining that art has long been her way of coping with intense emotion.

In another message addressed directly to her dog, Inaba shared the quiet heartbreak of watching Peanut struggle.

โ€œI miss your sweet kisses,โ€ she wrote. โ€œYour trachea and heart issues make it less comfortable for you to give me those sweet kisses that have gotten me through the most difficult moments in my lifeโ€ฆ So of course, it showed up in the art. Peanut, I love you. #grief #pets.โ€

Inaba is also a devoted pet parent to two other dogs, Lola and Buddy.

A Lifelong Animal Lover

Inaba has long spoken about her deep bond with animals and the way they shape her daily life. She previously shared that Peanut began as a foster but quickly became family, just like her other dogs, Lola and Buddy.

โ€œAs soon as I fostered them, I failed at the foster, and I now have three dogs!โ€ she said in 2016, as reported by People.

She often described Peanut as the heart of her fur family, which also includes several cats.

โ€œShe always seems to be thinking and concerned about everybodyโ€™s welfare,โ€ Inaba told People. โ€œI related to that, and I wanted to take care of her so that she wouldnโ€™t have to be always stressed about everybody.โ€

In a past interview with Guideposts, Inaba reflected on why animals hold such a healing presence in her life.

โ€œAnimals love you no matter what, and itโ€™s the most beautiful thing in the world,โ€ she said. โ€œItโ€™s the most healing thing in the world, because life is filled with ups and downs and trials and tribulations, and when you come home to an animal, they just are always the same. They love you no matter what you do.โ€

As messages of love continue to pour in, Inabaโ€™s tribute to Peanut stands as a gentle reminder of the enduring, powerful bond between people and the animals who walk beside them through life.
