HGTV is switching things up with its new “Off the Wall” Wednesday night lineup starting on January 7, 2026. It includes a show unlike anything the network has aired before.
The evening begins with Retta’s always-amusing “Ugliest House in America” as it premieres a new season with two episodes at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. Those are followed by two new shows — the previously-launched “Cheap A$$ Homes” and the premiere of a groundbreaking series for the network called “Neighborhood Watch,” which already has fans fired up online.
‘Neighborhood Watch’ is Unlike Anything HGTV Has Aired Before
After “Cheap A$$ Houses,” HGTV will switch gears from its usual real estate and renovation shows to premiere “Neighborhood Watch” at 9:30 p.m. Eastern time. Each half-hour episode will “reveal the raw, unfiltered and sometimes shocking footage,” per HGTV’s press materials, with videos produced captured by people’s security cameras, smart doorbells, and nanny cams.
A 90-second preview for the show posted on social media begins with an onscreen message that says, “Everything you are about to see is real.” A man is then seen bidding his family goodbye on his front porch as he leaves for work, only to slip down their sidewalk stairs.
“Your house is a camera,” a narrator then says. “Tens of millions of homes are recording your every move.”
HGTV says each of its 16 “Neighborhood Watch” episodes will feature “the best doorbell cam moments of our time,” featuring footage of everyone from “neighbors and postal workers to uninvited guests and animal visitors” in “the most embarrassing, hilarious, outrageous and downright bizarre moments” caught on home surveillance cameras.
‘Neighborhood Watch’ is Getting Mixed Reaction From HGTV Fans Before It Airs
Even before the show premiered, fans voiced their opinions about the new HGTV show on social media, including one who commented on the video preview, “I AM ALREADY HOOKED” and another celebrating the move by saying, “We need funny 😄 😂.” Many people also inquired about how they can send in their own clips to be featured.
Others expressed that they’re not thrilled with the network’s direction, including someone who wrote, “Home and Garden Television Network. I used to love it! Now, less homes, absolutely no Garden, but we’ll go ahead and show doorbell videos. No thanks”
Another complained via Facebook, “You got to be kidding me. I’m thinking HGTV is throwing all of these new shows to see if any of them stick! Good Grief!”
Some lamented that multiple renovation shows like “Married to Real Estate” and “Bargain Block” were canceled in 2025, frustrated that they’ve been replaced with shows like “Neighborhood Watch,” which are typically far less expensive to produce.
