What Is HGTV ‘Tropic Like It’s Hot’ About?
“Tropic Like It’s Hot” follows buyers seeking a home in tropical destinations. If sun, sand, romance, and beautiful luxury homes are your vibe, HGTV’s newest series is just the thing.
The HGTV site explains, “With the help of a local real estate expert, sun-chasing duos will tour exotic properties while navigating romance, relocation and high-stakes decisions as they turn up the heat on their next chapter.”
“Tropic Like It’s Hot” premieres on Monday, April 6 with back to back episodes at 10 and 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.
The series premiere features a “Canadian power couple” who have been dating for nine months looking “to find a love nest and build a business in Tulum, Mexico,” HGTV shares. “While adjusting to life in paradise comes easily, buying a home with a new partner is a risky move that may be too much too soon.”
The second episode synopsis notes: “After a DM slide and just one week together, a Canadian duo is selling everything to relocate and reignite a romance in Jacó, Costa Rica. They’re buying a home and working together, and he’s betting his life savings on a relationship that’s yet to be tested.”
In a March 9 Instagram post from production company Leopard USA, the caption notes: “Set against swaying palms, sumptuous pools and sparkling turquoise seas, this 16-part series promises romance, relocation and real-life drama as buyers seek their dream homes in the world’s most stunning tropical destinations.”
New HGTV Shows Replace Canceled Series
In 2025, HGTV canceled a number of beloved series, including “Bargain Block,” “Christina on the Coast,” “The Flipping El Moussas,” “Farmhouse Fixer,” “Izzy Does It,” and “Married to Real Estate.”
While fans have been recovering from the cancellation of their favorite shows, HGTV has been rolling out a steady stream of new offerings to fill the void.
In an August 2025 press release, the network announced two new series, “Cheap A$$ Beach Houses” and “Tropic Like It’s Hot.”
In October 2025, HGTV shared more new shows coming to the network, including “Botched Homes,” “Property Brothers: Under Pressure,” “Neighborhood Watch,” and “World’s Bargain Dream Homes.”
HGTV later announced “Wild Vacation Rentals” and “Bachelor Mansion Takeover,” which premiered in March 2026.
