In one of the most famously tragic love triangles of our time, Amy Fisher shot the wife of Joey Buttafuoco, the man she was a mistress to while in high school, TIME reported. At the time, Amy was 17 years old, while Buttafuoco and his wife, Mary Jo Buttafuoco, were in their late 30s.
Amy carried out the shooting on May 19, 1992, when she showed up at her lover’s home in Massapequa, N.Y. Miraculously, Mary Jo survived after being shot in the head with a .25-caliber handgun.
In a new Lifetime film titled “I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco,” executive produced by Mary Jo, she tells the story of her shocking experience through her own words. “Everyone’s fighting about the truth. I was fighting for my life!” Mary Jo stated in the film’s trailer.

Joey served four months in jail in 1993 after being found guilty of his relationship with the minor. Mary Jo stayed with Joey after she was shot by his mistress, divorcing in 2003.
Before Joey was convicted, he worked in the automobile industry, owning his own repair shop. According to his IMDb, Joey has made his way into Hollywood fame. He appeared in several films, including “Pervasions of Science” in 1997, “The Underground Comedy Movie” in 1999 and “Finding Forrester” in 2000.
