Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and his wife Lauren made the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards a family date night, without the kids. While on the red carpet, Mike opened up about the “keys” behind his marriage, telling PEOPLE that communication comes first. “Communication is key. That’s number one,” he said. “Number two, if you guys get into a fight, always try to be the first to apologize and try not to go to bed mad. You know, every now and then it happens, but always remember that you’re husband and wife and that you love each other.”
Lauren praised her husband’s patience, especially while raising three small children, and said that watching him as a hands-on dad has deepened her love for him over time. “Mike has the patience of a saint,” she shared, adding that his role as a father makes her “fall in love with him even more as we get older.”
Mike also reflected on parenting, admitting it can be tough but rewarding. “Being a young parent, it’s hard, but it’s the best job out there,” he said. “I just feel like that’s our purpose to be a mom and a dad right now. And I just love it.”
A Red Carpet Date Night
The longtime couple stepped onto the red carpet at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Sept. 7, turning heads with their bold looks and showing that their bond is as strong as ever.
The “Jersey Shore” star hit the carpet in an all-black outfit featuring trousers, suspenders, a sleeveless shirt, and his signature sunglasses. He even flexed his biceps for cameras along the way. Lauren complemented him in a rhinestone-covered one-shoulder silver mini dress, paired with strappy heels and a sleek ponytail. Married since 2018, the two share three children: Romeo, 4, Mia, 2, and 18-month-old Luna Lucia.
From College Sweethearts to Family of Five
Mike and Lauren’s story started back in 2005, when they first met in math class at Brookdale Community College. Their romance paused when Mike joined “Jersey Shore” in 2009, but they reunited in 2013 after the show wrapped. In 2018, Mike proposed on Valentine’s Day during “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation”, telling Lauren, “I fell in love with you because you loved me when I couldn’t even love myself.”
Now, more than 20 years after they first crossed paths, Mike and Lauren’s relationship has come full circle. Their marriage, built on patience and respect, continues to grow as they raise their three kids together.
