Morrissey, the iconic British singer-songwriter and former frontman of The Smiths, has canceled his first two concerts of his 2026 tour due to an adverse reaction to medication, his team confirmed this week.
While disappointing for fans eagerly anticipating the show, the announcement was accompanied by a reassuring message that the concerts will be rescheduled at a later date.
The first cancellation affected Morrissey’s scheduled performance in Rancho Mirage, California, originally set for Saturday, January 3, as part of his ongoing tour.
The Show Was Canceled Just A Day Before
The announcement was shared to Morrissey-Solo website on Friday, Jan. 2, just one day ahead of his scheduled performance.
“Please hold onto your tickets as they will be honored for a rescheduled date. Should you wish to request a refund, please contact your original point of purchase,” the statement added.
The specifics of the medication and reaction were not disclosed.
His next tour stop was slated to be on January 6 in San Diego, but that show has also been canceled per a social media post from the theater.
“Pease note the Morrissey event scheduled for January 6 at the San Diego Civic Theatre has been canceled. Refunds are available via point of purchase,” the simple announcement read.
Fans React to The Canceled Performance
Fans reacted with a mix of support and empathy on social media. While some expressed disappointment about the missed show, many expressed well-wishes for a swift recovery, highlighting the deep connection Morrissey has cultivated with his audience over decades.
“We love you [Morrissey]! Get well soon,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “You [are] still a living legend.”
Others were upset as the show was already previously rescheduled.
His music — both solo and with The Smiths — has inspired generations with introspective lyrics and distinct vocal stylings, and many followers said they would gladly wait to see him perform again.

In November 2025, the singer canceled additional stops as his representatives said it was due to “extreme exhaustion,” according to New Noise Magazine.
The outlet noted that he had additional cancellations in April, June, September, and October. The reasons that were given varied greatly. Some were for sinusitis and travel-related fatigue. Another reason was there was a “credible threat” to assassinate him onstage. A man was later arrested in connection with the threat.
Morrissey’s next concert is scheduled for Jan. 10 in San Antonio, Texas.
