Celine Dion Moved To Tears By Fans In Paris Ahead Of Her Long-Awaited Stage Return

Celine Dion couldn’t hide her emotions as fans welcomed her back to the spotlight. The iconic singer appeared visibly moved when she was greeted by cheering crowds of fans outside her Paris hotel on Friday. This appearance is her first public appearance in two years.

Dion’s arrival at the Hotel Le Royal Monceau marked her first outing since November 2024. She made a surprise appearance at an Elie Saab fashion show in Riyadih, Saudi Arabia. Clutching her hands to her chest and blowing kisses to the fans waiting outside, Dion looked touched by the reception. She stepped out in a chic camel-colored trenchcoat, black cutout heeled boots, and oversized black sunglasses.

A Long-Awaited Return to the Stage

Dion, 58, will perform 16 shows between September and October as a part of her residency at Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris. Due to “overwhelming demand,” the residency has been extended and Dion will perform 10 additional shows in May 2027.

The “I Will Always Love You” singer’s return marks the end of a long, difficult chapter. Her last planned residency in Las Vegas in 2021 was ultimately called off due to the singer’s health concerns. Dion has been candid about her struggle with muscle spasms related to stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological condition she publicly revealed in December 2022. The condition is progressive, but Dion has made it a point to do everything to prepare for her return.

Getting Ready, Physically and Emotionally

Dion has been training intensively to prepare for the residency. Her regimen includes 90-minute Pilates sessions three times a week and ballet classes twice weekly, alongside additional practice in her home gym. Speaking with French broadcaster BFMTV, she admitted to feeling both excited and a little nervous given how long it has been, but she said she feels ready.

“I have always felt supported from the first day and because it’s a story that continues. It’s true that this is my second home,” Dion said.

Dion’s family have served as her primary caregivers over the past several years. Her children, particularly her twin teenage sons, have been trained by medical professionals and Dion’s physical therapist to provide care in emergency situations. In her documentary “I Am Celine Dion,” Dion shared that her sons rehearse drills on where to locate panic buttons for emergency help and how to respond when she is experiencing severe symptoms.

Her SPS symptoms first manifested in her voice, making performing increasingly difficult. The progression of her symptoms was what led to her decision to cancel her tour and prioritize her health.

Dion’s last public performance was during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics in 2024. She sang “Hymne à l’amour” (Hymn to love) atop the Eiffel Tower during a rainstorm. Since The moment was just as emotional for Dion as it was for fans, making this comeback moment especially significant.

The iconic performer made sure to emphasize how much she is looking forward to seeing her fans and supporters again. “It’s been so long, I would like to offer them something to show how I’ve missed them,” Dion said.
