As the search for Nancy Guthrie continues into its eighth week, there is little sign of any progress into discovering the identity of the suspect or suspects involved. The mother of broadcaster Savannah Guthrie was forcibly taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona at the start of February and has not been seen since.
While some information has been made public about the suspect who could be seen in surveillance footage taken from Nancy Guthrie’s home, neither the FBI nor the Pima County Sheriff’s department have tracked down those responsible.
Now, American journalist and lawyer Megyn Kelly has suggested that an organized crime gang may have been involved in the kidnapping case.
Megyn Kelly Reveals Theory About Organized Crime Gang in Nancy Guthrie Case
During a recent episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the reporter had a conversation with a pair of security experts. While discussing the case with James Hamilton and Will Geddes, the trio posed the possibility of a South American breaking and entering crew being involved.
“You’ve been saying on this program for a couple of weeks now that you’ve seen video of these South American criminals who were breaking into homes,” Kelly said. “This is my new number one theory. You’ve got me. Now that. I’ve seen the video of these guys, I totally get it.”
While showing videos of suspects from the organized crime group , Kelly revealed, “They look a lot like our perp. They have a hoodie sweatshirt on. They have black masks. They have gloves. They are pretty much covered head to toe.”
Hamilton went on to argue that this could explain why law enforcement have not been able to find any DNA matches. “If you came in here with on a tourist visa, you flew in from another country ,and you came in through a port of entry, we’re not going to have your DNA,” he explained. “If you haven’t been arrested in the U.S., we’re not going to have your fingerprints.”
He continued, “To me, that might point toward this theory of it was a transnational criminal group. And that’s why we’re not getting any DNA hits. But as far as the body, again I’m with Will, I wrestle on that a lot. But I also know that these guys aren’t stupid. And it’s very difficult for you, as an American, to understand how little human life can be valued. And if you’re from another part of the world where human life doesn’t mean as much…”
Geddes isn’t necessarily convinced by the theory, though, due to the fact that Nancy Guthrie was taken from the home. He said, “My gut feeling is it isn’t a B&E (breaking and entering). The simple reason being is the value of the contents of the house. And secondly, the actual disappearance of Nancy’s body itself, you know, her person, it’s vanished.”
Sheriff Walks Back Significance of January 11 in Nancy Guthrie Investigation
This week, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is walking back its request for surveillance footage from January 11 after the importance of the date came under question.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed to NBC News’ Liz Kreutz on Sunday, March 22,
“January 11th came to them from Google, as they’ve been helping to try to retrieve the Nest camera surveillance footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera,” Kreutz explained. “Google owns Nest.”
She continued, “[Nanos] said that when Google was able to retrieve some of those surveillance images that we’ve all seen, Google came to them and said, ‘This particular image’—the one that doesn’t show the suspect wearing a backpack—’that we believe that was from January 11. There’s a possibility it was January 11.’”
Google subsequently confirmed that the image may not have been from January 11, making it less of a focus in the investigation.
