Perez Hilton is sharing a terrifying warning to fans after sepsis landed him in the hospital for weeks.
“My stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days,” Hilton said in a YouTube video shared on Monday, March 23. “It was the worst and best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
What Led to Perez Hilton’s Dire Medical Situation?
Hilton took to YouTube on Monday, his 48th birthday, to share his “most important” video ever. In the lengthy post, the celebrity reporter explained how he ended up in the hospital for 21 days.
“Before I was hospitalized, I had the flu. I had the flu for about a week,” Hilton explained. “I’m not a person who is a partyier or abuses things. I took my medication for the flu for a week.”
He went on to explain that despite taking his prescribed medication as scheduled, he was doing so on an empty stomach.
“You’re supposed to take all of this medication with food because some of these anti-this, helping with that, they can be hard on the stomach or the intestines,” he continued. “So, because I have been taking all of this medication without food for a week, I developed an ulcer, then a perforation, and then sepsis.”
Hilton recalled experiencing extreme stomach pain, claiming the pain was so severe that he could not walk.
“The first few days were a lot of pain and constant tests,” he said, saying he underwent multiple X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds. “They couldn’t find where the perforation was.”
He eventually had laparoscopic surgery, among other procedures, to clear the infection from his body. Despite being released after three weeks, Hilton is still being monitored regularly.
“Now that I’m home, I’m not 100 percent,” he said. “I brought the hospital with me…They had to insert a pick line, which is like a big fancy scary IV with two lines, and one goes to my heart.”
He added, “I said, ‘Okay, I’ll do whatever you recommend because I’m not going back to the hospital. It’s a one-and-done for me.'”
Perez Hilton’s New Outlook on Life
Hilton claimed that this experience was a wake-up call, explaining that he was working nonstop and missing out on life events with his children.
“I felt this need to produce for my family so much that I was doing this and that and that and not doing the little things,” he said through tears. “Like sure, I take my kids to this fun event and that fun event, but it’s the little things that matter. Like it was grandma who would do dinner with the kids every night. No more. I’m gonna have dinner with my kids and my mom every night from now on.”
