A Friday night concert by The Chainsmokers in San Jose, California, prompted a significant emergency response after more than a dozen attendees needed hospital care.
ABC7 reported that fourteen people were transported to local hospitals during and after the electronic music duo’s outdoor show at Discovery Meadow on Friday, September 4, according to the San Jose Fire Department and local police. Authorities said the medical calls involved a range of concerns.
Police told NBC Bay Area that some cases involved “suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues.” Officials have not released the identities or conditions of the hospitalized people.
What Happened at The Chainsmokers Concert?
The San Jose Fire Department said crews were dispatched to Discovery Meadow at 8:22 p.m. following “reports of multiple patients requiring medical attention.”
The response quickly grew as emergency personnel determined they needed additional resources. At least 10 people were transported to hospitals during the final 30 minutes of the concert, police told ABC 7. Paramedics continued treating attendees at the venue as the show ended.
ABC 7 reported that several attendees were recovering from alcohol- or drug-related problems following the event.
Authorities have not said whether the cases were connected.
Why Were 14 People Hospitalized?
Police cited several different medical concerns and described alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues as suspected factors in some of the hospitalizations. No arrests were reported in connection with the incident, according to SFGate. Officials also did not indicate that The Chainsmokers or the concert itself played any role in causing the medical emergencies.
The San Jose Police Department assisted with traffic control as paramedics and ambulances responded to the area.
How Did San Jose Fire Officials Respond?
The number of patients prompted the fire department to bring in additional help.
The SJFD said on X that it “immediately requested an Ambulance Task Force, two additional advanced life support fire units, and a Battalion Chief to manage the incident and provide additional medical resources.”
Fourteen ambulances ultimately responded to Discovery Meadow.
Video published by ABC 7 showed a line of ambulances outside the venue along with a fire truck as crews worked at the scene. The emergency response lasted roughly two hours. The fire department said all of its resources had returned to service by approximately 10:34 p.m.

The concert had begun at 5 p.m., according to ABC 7.
Despite the medical response surrounding Friday’s event, The Chainsmokers continued with their previously scheduled appearances.
The duo performed at Encore Beach Club at Wynn Las Vegas the following morning, Saturday, September 5, according to the venue’s social media posts.
The San Jose Police Department has not released additional details about the people who required medical care or the circumstances surrounding individual cases.
People reported that it contacted representatives for The Chainsmokers and the San Jose Fire Department for additional comment.
For now, authorities have characterized the episode as a series of medical calls involving multiple attendees, with the investigation not indicating arrests or criminal charges.
