Actress Aubrey Plaza Expecting First Child One Year After Tragic Passing Of Her Husband: REPORT

Beloved actress Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, Chris Abbott, PEOPLE reports.

“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” a source told the outlet, who also added that “they feel very blessed.” A representative for Plaza confirmed the news to PEOPLE.

Plaza and Abbott first worked together in summer 2019 on the movie, “Black Bear.” They then worked together on the off-Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.

Aubrey Plaza’s Late Husband Jeff Baena Passed Away in January 2025

Plaza’s late husband, Jeff Baena, passed away by suicide in January 2023, and the actress opened up about the loss during an appearance on Amy Poehler’s podcast in August.

“I think, like, I’m OK. But you know, it’s like a daily struggle,” Plaza told Poehler. “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. I feel, overall, I’m here and I’m functioning — and I feel, you know, like I feel really grateful to be moving through the world.”

She also compared her grief to that in the 2025 film The Gorge, starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

“In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side, and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s gorge in between,” she explained. “And it’s filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them.”

“I swear when I watched it,” Plaza continued, “I was like, that feels like what my grief is like—or what grief could be like—where at all times there’s like a giant ocean of awfulness, that’s right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there.”
