Today Dolly Parton‘s family announced via a video posted online that she has passed away at the age of 80. Millions around the world are feeling devastated by the loss of such an icon, with tributes pouring in faster than anyone can keep track of.
Actress Sandra Bullock shared a sweet one to her Instagram story, reminiscing on Dolly’s acting days as well as on The Dolly Parton Show.
Sandra Bullock’s Tribute
Sandra made two posts to her Instagram story to commemorate Dolly Parton, using only six words and a single emoji of a peaceful white dove. The first part of Sandra’s tribute was a repost of an old video of Dolly singing with Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris in 1976 on The Dolly Parton Show. The trio are sitting in front of sets of twinkling lights while beautifully performing “Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow”, which now takes on an even deeper meaning with Dolly’s passing.
The second is a clip of Dolly and Sandra starring together in the 2000s comedy film “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous”. In a funny scene Sandra is sitting on Dolly while she’s wearing a glamorous purple dress, and a crowd are in utter shock asking what Sandra thinks she’s doing. Sandra insists that that isn’t the real Dolly and upon learning it is in fact the real Dolly, Sandra quizzes her on why she ran away if she was the real deal. Dolly hilariously responds by saying: “Because some crazy woman was chasing me!”
Penned over the clip Sandra simply wrote: “I’ll always be a big fan…”
Dolly’s Family Announce She Has Passed Away
Dolly Parton’s family posted a video message to her social media profiles today announcing that she had passed away. Bryan Seaver read out the tragic news, speaking to a camera. He shared: “Hey everyone, my name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I am representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean.
“Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation, and Gigi to the next. This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now. It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, but not with Dolly.
“Dolly has lived in the light […] met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens. […] Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life , and across every continent. By her example, we believed that anything was possible.
“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and your phone playlist becoming an extended part of your family.”
