Comedian Leanne Morgan is getting excited. And she wants you to feel the same.
The Tennessee comedian’s new sitcom debuts this month on Netflix.
Netflix posted a trailer for the show, titled “LEANNE” on Instagram with the caption, “to new beginningsโฆ even the ones we never wanted. LEANNE premieres july 31!”
In the comments, Leanne writes, “I cannot wait to share this with all of you!!! Iโm SO excited!! ๐”
The Netflix landing page for the show describes the plot, โWhen her husband leaves her for another woman, a resilient Southern mom starts over with the support of her loving, but unfiltered family.โ
The series co-creator is Chuck Lorre, who has created hits like โThe Big Bang Theory,โ โYoung Sheldon,โ and โTwo and a Half Men.โ
In a Netflix press release, Lorre says, โIf youโve seen even 10 seconds of Leanne Morganโs stand-up, then you know what a unique comedic force she is. The theme of starting over is universal, and I cannot think of anyone better to combine heart and comedy than Leanne. I knew I had to work with her, and Iโm so excited to bring this story to Netflix.โ
‘Leanne’ Leans Heavily Into Comedian’s Standup Style
The new sitcom leans heavily into Leanne Morgan’s style as a standup comedian.
The new trailer will resonate with fans who have watched the comedian’s Netflix stand up special, “I’m Every Woman.” The special was one of the highest-watched specials on the platform in 2023.
The trailer for the new sitcom, also on Netflix, starts with a voiceover by Morgan saying, โYou take a vow, and then 33 years of complete and utter devotion, you find out heโs run off with a younger woman.โ
โLook what heโs turned me into,โ a distraught Morgan says at one point in the trailer. โIโm like Hulk Hogan with breasts.โ
The comedy co-stars Kristen Johnston (โMom,โ โThird Rock from the Sunโ) Celia Weston, Tim Daly (โMadam Secretary,โ โWingsโ) Blake Clark, Ryan Stiles, Graham Rogers and Hannah Pilkes.
Netflix has ordered 16 episodes of the series, which Morgan not only stars in, but serves as co-creator and executive producer.
