Nancy Guthrie has been missing for more than six months since being taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. While one former FBI agent claimed the case had run “cold,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department released a statement amid reports of human remains found near her home.
Human Remains Found
According to the PCSD, “Search & Rescue deputies are responding to reports of human remains found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard.”
Sheriff Chris Nanos added via X, “The remains appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time. At this time, there is no indication they are connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”
Law enforcement sources told TMZ on Tuesday that the bones were found in a “very remote” part of the desert near Guthrie’s home. The area is reportedly only accessible “by a long hike.”
“Our boots on the ground say the bones are definitively not Nancy Guthrie,” a source told the outlet.
Savannah Guthrie’s Plea
Days ahead of the six-month mark, Nancy’s daughter Savannah Guthrie shared a plea with her mother’s captors.
“I’m coming on today with a very specific message. It has been months since our mom was taken from us,” she began in a video shared on Monday, July 27. “Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed.”
She continued, “We have done our part. And we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts. The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way. So I am asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now, make the right choice.”
“Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing,” Savannah pleaded. “Help us bring this situation to an end. For all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done, I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice.”
Nancy Guthrie Disappearance
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, alongside the FBI’s Phoenix Division, has been searching for the 84-year-old mother of three since February 1. Nancy was last seen the evening of January 31 at a family dinner hosted by her daughter Annie Guthrie.
Investigators were able to uncover previously lost footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera that showed a masked, armed man tampering with the camera in the early morning hours of February 1. Detectives believe Guthrie was taken from her home against her will.
In late July, PCSD released two ransom notes that were received shortly after Nancy’s disappearance.
“We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition,” one note read. “We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart related. She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry.”
