Rose Byrne is going solo for this yearโs Golden Globes!
And thatโs because her longtime partner Bobby Cannavale has a very specific โ and very personal โ reason: heโll be attending an animal expo in New Jersey.
The actress shared the detail during a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon on โThe Tonight Showโ on Jan. 8.
Cannavale Has Plans to Head to New Jersey
“You know what, Bobby can’t come, which is such a bummer,” Byrne began. “He’s going to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”
The actress is nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Movie for her role in โIf I Had Legs I’d Kick You.โ
As the crowd laughed, Fallon stated, โWhat are you talking about?”
Byrne Is Excited for The Reptile
The 46-year-old explained how the family is going to be getting a โgorgeousโ bearded dragon, who will be eating crickets. As Byrne is originally from Australia, she added that the reptile is native to her home.
โI had a friend who had [a bearded dragon], and she said crickets do escape, sometimes. And you’ll find them around the house,” she told Fallon.
And according to Byrne, the event in โdeepโ New Jersey is the place to get reptiles.
“And this expo is the place where everyone goes, and it’s the place to go, and it was on the same day,” Byrne said. “And it would just be such a parent fail so we’re doing it. I’m on board for the dragon, it’s going to be great.”
She noted how happy she is about Cannavale making his way to go get the new family pet. โHe’s doing God’s work,โ she added.
The couple, who have been together since 2012 and share two sons, have long taken a low-key approach to public appearances.
While both are well-known actors, they donโt regularly attend events together unless it aligns with their schedules and family life.
Byrneโs explanation stood out for its specificity โ and its humor. Rather than offering a vague or polished Hollywood answer, she simply shared the truth: Cannavale had a prior commitment that mattered to him, and the timing didnโt work.
Cannavale, best known for roles in โBoardwalk Empire,โ โVinyl,โ and โThe Station Agent,โ has previously spoken about his interests outside of acting, including his enthusiasm for animals.
Byrneโs comment added a rare glimpse into that side of his life, one that doesnโt often make headlines.
