Soap star Carlo Rotta has broken his silence after Sidwell was sent to prison on “General Hospital.” In a shocking turn of events, Sidwell accepted a plea deal rather than face a trial. The revelation left fans stunned and wondering if this was really the end of the villain fans have come to enjoy since his 2024 debut.
Is Sidwell Leaving ‘General Hospital’?
The “General Hospital” fan club event took place the first weekend in August, right before Sidwell’s unexpected exit from Port Charles. Rotta was on hand for the event along with his wife, Nazneen Contractor (Justine).
Speaking with Soap Central, Rotta revealed that fans have not seen the last of him or Sidwell. In fact, Sidwell heading to Pentonville continues the villain’s storyline and gives him a change of scenery. It also adds a whole new element to Sidwell’s story, one involving a familiar face.
“I am in prison with another character from the show. We share a cell,” he expressed to the outlet. Although the actor didn’t reveal who Sidwell shares a cell with, fans have thrown out Nikolas (Adam Huss) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) as possibilities.
Whoever it is, the good news for fans is that Sidwell isn’t leaving the show. That means storylines like him exposing Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) for their crimes will come out, hopefully soon.
The fallout of Sidwell learning that Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) killed his son (Adrian Anchondo), not Sonny (Maurice Benard), will play out, too. Sidwell won’t be happy that Cullum was painted a hero by the WSB and blamed his dirty deeds at Wyndemere on Cassius (Ryan Paevey).
When Sidwell was first arrested on “General Hospital,” Rotta used social media to share merchandise supporting his character. The actor posed for several photos in a t-shirt that read “Free Sidwell.”
Fans flooded the comments on his Instagram post, gushing over Rotta and Sidwell. “You are the funniest person on GH! You have an art for suavely yet savagely keeping people in line! Free Sidwell!” said a fan.
Another fan chimed in to say, “Too funny 🤣🤣🤣. The evil guys on General Hospital have a fantastic sense of humor!” Rotta’s “General Hospital” co-star Rory Gibson (Michael) declared, “I need one of these haha.”
“I want one of these tshirts asap! Oh wait. I’ll just steal yours @carlodanterota,” joked Contractor as she joined in on the fun with her husband.

Sidwell certainly wasn’t hurting for female attention during his time in Port Charles. Lucy (Lynn Herring) had her eye on the villain from the second he came to town, but Ava (Maura West) soon set her sights on him too.
During his interview with Soap Central, Rotta gave mad props to West. “She’s not only a fantastic person and actress but she’s accomplished. She has five kids. We had a great time,” he expressed to the outlet.
Ava and Sidwell’s time was cut short when he shot her nephew, Lucas (Van Hansis). Sidwell also held Ava and Ethan (Nathan Dean) at gunpoint, which ultimately led to his arrest, thanks to Justine and Sonny.
Here’s hoping that, despite everything that went down, Sidwell and Ava have more scenes together, because the chemistry between West and Rotta is off the charts.
