Why Several Mega Country Stars Are Skipping the Grammys

Some of country musicโ€™s biggest names are choosing to sit out this yearโ€™s 2026 Grammy Awards, a decision that comes amid renewed discussion about how the genre is represented on one of musicโ€™s most prominent stages.

Country Music Stars Miranda Lambert, Morgan Wallen Skip Grammys Amid Top-Category Snub

According to Page Six, country music stars such as Miranda Lambert, George Strait, and Morgan Wallen are planning to skip the upcoming ceremony, even as country music continues to enjoy widespread popularity and commercial success.

The decision follows a year in which no country artists received nominations in the Grammysโ€™ four top categories โ€” Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist โ€” a shift that has sparked conversation throughout the country music community.

While country artists earned recognition in genre-specific categories, the absence of country nominees in the showโ€™s most high-profile awards has not gone unnoticed.

Lambert, a longtime Grammy favorite, remains one of the most nominated country artists this year. She earned four nods, including Best Contemporary Country Album, Best Country Song, and two nominations in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.

Strait also received a nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his collaboration โ€œHonky Tonk Hall of Fameโ€ with Chris Stapleton.

Wallenโ€™s absence from the ceremony was expected by some in the industry, as the singer did not submit his album โ€œIโ€™m the Problemโ€ for Grammy consideration.

Inside the Grammys’ Country Music Representation Debate

In an interview with Variety, recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. addressed the issue, emphasizing the evolving nature of the voting body and the complexity of the selection process.

According to Mason Jr., the results largely reflect voter participation, which he believes is currently โ€œvery well balanced.โ€

โ€œBut the moment is changing, and it continues to change every week, every month, all year long, and weโ€™re going to keep an eye on how we can make sure weโ€™re being reflective of whatโ€™s going on in music,โ€ he said.

He also acknowledged the emotional impact of artists or genres feeling overlooked, adding, โ€œItโ€™s hard to predict why we get the results that we do. All I know is, itโ€™s heartbreaking for me when somebodyโ€™s not represented, whether thatโ€™s an individual artist or a genre, because I know how hard people work in this business.โ€

Despite the debate, excitement surrounding the 2026 Grammy Awards remains strong, with events continuing across Los Angeles ahead of the ceremony. Country artists, including Lainey Wilson, are confirmed to participate as presenters.
