Country singer Kelsea Ballerini is mourning the loss of her beloved dog, Dibs. The “Cowboys Cry Too” artist received an outpouring of love from fans amid the tragic loss.
Kelsea Ballerini Mourns Beloved Dog’s Passing
Ballerini took to social media on Thursday, January 8, to share the devastating news of her dog’s passing.
“My sweet dibs went to doggy heaven yesterday,” the Grammy nominee wrote alongside a series of photos with the late Golden Doodle. “He spent his last few days in his backyard looking at the sunshine and surrounded and visited by his forever people.”
She went on to say, “There are no words to articulate his role in my life, but I couldn’t have done the last ten years without him, and he will always be my soul dog.”
“I pray and believe we’ll find each other in every life. His love and reach can’t be captured in an Instagram photo dump, or in a caption, but here’s a look at some happy from dibs.”
In August 2024, Ballerini revealed that Dibs was diagnosed with “inoperable cancer in his heart,” according to People.
“He’s not in pain, and luckily it hasn’t spread further,” she announced at the time. “We’re going to start him on the ‘big’ meds to try to make sure he can have as many comfortable and happy days (weeks, months🙏) left as possible.”
Following his passing, Ballerini thanked her fans for “loving him so loudly.”
“I feel like the luckiest girl in the world that I got to be his dog mom, greatest gift of my life.”
Fans Shared Their Condolences for Ballerini’s Loss
The “Miss Me More” artist, who named her beloved pup after her 2015 hit song of the same name, previously opened up about the dog’s name.
“[My band members] were like, ‘Kelsea, that’s so lame. We are not going to call the dog Dibs if you name him that. No,'” Ballerini said in 2015 of the iconic name, according to KMTS. “[The breeder] goes, ‘Hey, I know it’s none of my business. I know you’re gonna name him Knox, but you should really name him Dibs.’ I was like, ‘That’s a sign.'”
Fans and friends shared heartfelt condolences for Ballerini’s loss.
“An angel baby right where he belongs.. and still always with you. sending so much love,” singer Ashley Cooke wrote.
“Kels you both were the luckiest to have each other ❤️❤️ sending you the biggest hug so very sorry,” one fan commented.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t say I know how you feel, but I’m feeling something similar. I have a little chihuahua, Karter that I have had for 13 years. He’s got a bad heart and has cancer also. I know he will get to a better place soon. He’s on a heart medication that is helping him.
