Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is responding to a recent report that he withheld key evidence from the FBI as the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, continues.
โNot even close to the truth,โ Nanos told NBC Tucson affiliate KVOA on Thursday.
Chris Nanos Speaks Out Regarding Reports Of Sending Evidence To A Private Lab
In the initial report about the rift, Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz detailed how Sheriff Nanos sent a glove recovered from INSIDE the home to a private lab in Florida rather than the FBIโs lab in Virginia, according to the source.โ
However, when speaking with NBC Tucson affiliate KVOA, Nanos responded to this claim directly.
โActually, the FBI just wanted to send the one or two they found by the crime scene, closest to it โ mile, mile and a half โฆ I said โNo, why do that? Letโs just send them all to where all the DNA exist, all the profiles and the markers exist.โ They agreed, makes sense,โ Nanos told the outlet.
Specifically, the evidence included a pair of black gloves that has been sent out to see if there is any DNA. However, Nanos mentioned that it might not even have anything to do with the case.
โWe donโt even know the true value of these gloves,โ he said adding that there were “quite a number of them.”
FBI Raises Reward To $100,000
The FBI announced on Thursday, Feb, 12 that they have drastically increased the reward for any information that leads to “the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.” The FBI further added that they have received over 13,000.
“Every tip is reviewed for credibility, relevance, and information that can be acted upon by law enforcement,” the post read. “Threat Intake Examiners at the National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) and FBI personnel are supporting a 24-hour command post in which dozens of agents and investigators are assigned leads and tips to action each shift.”
And with that, they have released a description of the suspect who is “described as a male, approximately 5โ9โ – 5โ10โ tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter โOzark Trail Hiker Packโ backpack.”
The FBI previously offered a reward of 50,000 for information about Nancy’s disappearance from her Tucson, Arizona, home in Catalina Foothills, but the search is now on day 13, prompting this change.
