Teddi Mellencamp Asks Fans for Help Styling Hair Amid Cancer Journey

Teddi Mellencamp is getting candid once againโ€”this time about a very relatable part of her cancer journey: figuring out what to do with her hair.

On Wednesday, April 29, the former โ€œThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hillsโ€ star, 44, shared a video on Instagram asking for advice as her hair continues to grow back during treatment for stage 4 cancer.

Mellencamp Asks for Advice

โ€œYou guys have been so much help in giving me amazing referrals for great wigs that Iโ€™ve been using for the past however many months,โ€ she said. โ€œBut my question now isโ€ฆ. now what? What? The hair is too long for the wigs and Iโ€™m sick of the wigs, but like, what are we supposed to do here?โ€

Clearly ready for a change, Mellencamp turned to her followers for guidance.

โ€œSomeone send tips,โ€ she added with humor. โ€œI know I need my roots done, so you donโ€™t need to send that tip.โ€

Alongside the video, Mellencamp posted a throwback photo showing her shaved head and visible scars following brain surgeryโ€”offering a stark reminder of how far sheโ€™s come.

Reflecting on the progress, she wrote, โ€œItโ€™s not lost on me how much my hair has grown since the brain surgeries.โ€

Still, she kept things lighthearted, joking about her current look. โ€œHowever, I currently have the same hairstyle as Cruz and I donโ€™t have nearly enough โ€˜rizzโ€™ for that,โ€ she added, referencing her 11-year-old son.

Mellencamp shares Cruz, along with daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, 6, with her ex-husband.

Fans Shared Their Advice

Fans quickly filled the comments with both encouragement and practical styling advice, turning the post into a supportive exchange.

Some suggested shaping the sides while letting the top grow, while others recommended leaning into shorter styles.

โ€œI say just keep your inner Charlize Theron on because the short hair is working for me,โ€ one fan wrote, while another shared their own experience navigating regrowth after cancer.

โ€œ2.5 years out from my stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis. My hairstylist helped me shape every stage of the regrowth,โ€ the commenter explained, offering a step-by-step approach to avoiding awkward in-between stages.

Others encouraged Mellencamp to embrace creativity, suggesting accessories like scarves, clips, and headbands.

โ€œHave fun with it, get experimental,โ€ one person wrote.

The Former Bravo Star Has Been Open During Her Cancer Battle

Mellencampโ€™s openness about her appearance is just one part of her broader effort to share her health journey.

She was first diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in 2022, undergoing numerous surgeries to treat the aggressive form of skin cancer.

In April 2025, she revealed the disease had progressed to stage 4 after spreading to her brain and lungs.

Since then, she has been undergoing immunotherapy treatments.

In a hopeful update shared in October 2025, doctors told her there was โ€œno trace of cancer,โ€ despite her ongoing stage 4 diagnosis.

Throughout it all, Mellencamp has continued to document both the highs and lowsโ€”whether itโ€™s major health milestones or something as everyday as a haircut dilemma.
